In 1757, at a time when the thrust for research and discovery of the flourishing sciences was reflected in the numerous chambers of art and curiosities, the irrepressible interest in nature of the prince and later count Friedrich Karl of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadtcreated a remarkable natural history cabinet, which to this day continues to exist and constantly developed as a natural history museum.
Experience Thuringia's oldest natural history museum in one of the most magnificent baroque castles in Thuringia – Heidecksburg Palace. Explore the collections representing all areas of nature – plants, animals, minerals, fossils and rocks – the museum's exhibitions and stacks hold almost half a million objects.
