The fossil collection (plants, animals, traces of life) comprises around 10,000 objects, mostly from Europe, dating from the Cambrian to the Pleistocene.
Noteworthy are the trilobites by Jonathan Karl Zenker, the graptolites by Rudolf Hundt and various fossils by the Jena professor Karl Friedrich Kaltschmied. Among them is presumably type material. Research in this regard is still pending.
